First the '"wow" moment:
This morning on our way home from dropping Blue off at school we rounded a corner and I heard a loud thud. "What was that?" I said, more to myself than Toby. But Toby, who is now getting better and better with answering questions said, "K-en, Bubba backpack." In a split second he processed the noise, made a plausible deduction, and answered my question on the whole matter. I was impressed! It COULD very well have been Kaden or Blue's backpack forgotten by a forgetful brother and left behind in the van. I quickly remembered that it was probably something Kevin left in the van after a Lowe's trip last night, but Toby didn't have that information to inform his thought process. ;-)
In other Toby talking news...
The other night I was putting him to bed and he was stalling so he said, "Song?" I started singing Jesus Loves You but Toby started overriding that song by busting out with the Little Einstein's theme song. This was a bit too rousing of a choice as I was trying to wind him down for bedtime, so I said, "Jesus Loves You or Pray or Mommy go." I guess of those choices he wanted to pray because he said, "Dear God, Mommy, Daddy, K-en, Blue, Oma... June, Annie, Leo, C-C." (how he says Quincy). Holy heart-melting! He thanked God for his family before the Einstein's characters!

This is a blog started by a man with Fragile X in Austism. To have started a blog and be so articulate... he is clearly very high functioning, BUT... it is incredible to read in his own words the struggles he still faces - severe joint pain at 30 caused by the low muscle tone that is an FX symptom, sensory issues that cause him to hate choosing new clothes each day so instead he settles on an outfit for the week! Insightful, heart-breaking, inspiring... all rolled together.
