Blue will have KidsQuest at church tonight and Kaden has a baseball game, so I decided to start pumpkin carving this morning with Toby as my helper.
Or not.
I got started and he ran to the couch. I pulled out my first big handful of pumpkin guts and showed it to him and he said, "Bye. No pumpkin," and began actively ignoring me.
Seriously, Mom? You expect me to help you when you put on an episode of Phineas and Ferb. No way!
Finally I enticed him back to me by offering him the scraper spoon. He dipped it in but didn't scrape anything out.
So I got him to sit in my lap and demonstrated. He copied and managed to remove all of ONE seed before returning to the couch.
Thanks so much, Tobes.
At least at the end he inspected my work and prounounced the pumpkin, "Empty!"
After that he hassled me by bumping my arm and stealing my tools.
But... using this pic as my guide I managed to draw a lion on my pumpkin.
I'm not a tracer and I don't use that little pokey hole punching stick that comes with the pumpkin kits. I look at a picture and I draw. Unfortunately, my first go, I drew it too low so I wiped it all off and started over. So it goes.
The knife to cut the top, the scraping spoon to clean it, and the bumpy knife from the kit to cut my picture. Well, and a sharpie to draw and nail polish remover to remove the sharpie when it wasn't what I wanted.
The final test comes with the light up tonight, but I think it's ok. No thanks to Toby!
Oh, and why a lion? We've got a Narnia theme going on this Halloween. That's not just any lion you're looking at, that's Aslan!
