Last year for Tick or Treating Toby got to ride in the wagon, didn't go up to all of the houses that his brothers went to, and, about halfway through, came home kicking and screaming because he was DONE.
Halloween this year...
Toby started his day at about 5am so at 3pm when we got home from school, he had an I'M-TIRED mega meltdown. I put him in his bed with a sippy cup of almond milk and told him to take a break. And he sure did. He promptly fell asleep and didn't stir until 6pm when I opened his bedroom door because we were eating dinner.
My mom was there and clearly things were just different so he was wired. It took him awhile to come to the table. After dinner he was less than thrilled about getting his costume on. But...
So well that I thought, let's try and put his hat on...
High King Peter, Aslan, and King Edmund, you are pretty terrific looking, in my personal opinion.
This year, no wagon, our big 3 year old was gonna walk it.
That boy marched up to every house and would not accept help with carrying his bucket. He said "Trick or Treat!" And "Fank You!" to every one he saw.
In fact, after a whole lotta houses when I offered once again to carry his bucket I got a very clear, very adamant full SENTENCE (those are still rare for him). He said, "This candy is MINE."
Holy Moly.
I even let him go up to a few houses without me.
When we got home he revelled in his bucket like Scrooge revelling in a pile of money.
Even at the very spooky houses (and one such house had a man in a Jason mask holding a chainsaw) he just stared wide-eyed but never whined.
My boy couldn't have done any better.
And I couldn't have had any more fun with him.
That sounds like a perfect Halloween!!
