Until this year I have never thought about the fact that my birthday is 12 days after Christmas.
But now there is a very good reason that this has come to my attention.
On Christmas morning I opened a present I had bought myself (what can I say, expectations were low). I gave this present to Kevin many weeks ago and said, "Here, you can surprise me by deciding whether or not this goes in my stocking or under the tree." He took it from me, set it on his dresser and said, "Ok, but if I forget, you know where it is."
See why expectations were low?
Then I opened my stocking and there were a pair of earrings. Nice earrings from Global Girlfriend a place that sells items hand-made by women all over the world and sold at fair-trade prices. I'd circled a few things in the catalog and told him that if anyone wanted to give me anything "wrapable" here was where to look. (The parents usually pass out Christmas checks but like a wrapable gift too.) I don't remember circling those earrings, but ok.
Then I opened a present with a number #1 on it. Inside was a necklace that matched the earrings and I DEFINITELY circled that necklace.
(And yes, "#1" was written in sharpie on the wrapping paper. My man doesn't believe in gift tags. In his defense I don't have store bought gift tags to choose from because I make all my tags from old cards or scrap paper and don't usually have a lot of extra lying around! No, I don't expect him to make his own gift tags. So anyway...good job, Kevin.)
Why the #1?
Because apparently Kevin really wanted to help women in third world countries earn a fair trade.
That or he wanted to spoil his wife.
This year my hubs spent all his bonus on me shopping through that one catalog.
12 presents - one for each day to lead up to my January 5th birthday.
A women appreciates creativity. A grand gesture. A man wrapping twelve different gifts and numbering them with sharpie.
Love. Him.
Merry Christmas, Birthday to me!
My man Christmas morning after opening one of "his" presents - a lego game for him to play with the boys. A game he later did play with Kaden and Blue twice while I worked on dinner. Yup... Love. Him.
