So after only about 30 minutes of knowing this mission organization in Florida exists, I was getting ready to call and talk to the president.
I called MFI and asked the lady who answered the phone if I could talk to Dick. She patched me through and Dick and I had an excellent conversation where I shared my situation and interest in missionary aviation. He asked me to provide my resume along with a statement of faith from Faydra and I.
One week after our initial conversation, Dick extended an invitation for me and my family to come down to Fort Pierce and spend the week prior to October 24 at MFI. The Board of Directors was meeting for one of their quarterly meetings on October 24 and he wanted them to meet Faydra and I. Ultimately, the Board would be making the decision on whether to call me to serve with the organization.
MFI was not actively seeking a new pilot/mechanic. One of their long time employees had retired in 2008 but they had not sought a replacement for a number of reasons. So exactly one week after learning about this missionary aviation organization that is based in the town just north of where my mother-in-law lives, we were being invited down for very serious consideration.
Needless to say, that week went well. I spent most of the week at the hangar at St. Lucie International Airport and even served as a flight attendant on the Thursday trip down to Haiti. The meeting with the board on October 24 was very encouraging and they voted to accept us as the newest part of their family before we could even leave the building.
God really is amazing. He had this planned all along and knew exactly where we would begin serving him in 2010. One of my next posts will detail specifically all the doors he opened for me and my family to get us to MFI.
